Shifting to Auckland, he played with local musicians Don McGlashan, Phil Broadhurst, Jim Langabeer, and a residency gig with Maree Steinway at the Gables Hotel. Stephen opened a music-teaching studio in 1984 and since then has taught thousands of Auckland musicians singing, bass and guitar.
He also plays with the pop-rock covers band - the Stevie G Band, Crystal Silence Jazz Trio, the Buble experience, Trevor Thwaite's Jazz Septet, the Prohibition Big Band and other acts.
