Dr Music

Dr Music comprises two dedicated musicians: Stephanie on Caribbean Steel Pan, keyboards, vocals, & Paul on accordion & lead vocals. They played for many years at Festivals and University Balls across the UK, & at 100s of weddings & corporate events.

Dr Music was recommended to us for our 150th District Celebration and played after the dinner. They were a great asset and managed to get a lot of weary folk up dancing. They were very professional in their preparation and enthusiastic to help make the evening a success. Would certainly recommend them. I would now love to hear their Caribbean night!

WHAT WE DO - TYPES OF EVENTS

1. Reggae/Caribbean style music featuring the steel ‘pan. A feelgood explosion of reggae, and carnival sounds driven by Caribbean steel drum, strong vocals and hot rhythmns.

This is just great for wedding receptions, summer / pool events, festivals, ‘winter sunshine parties, holiday resorts and even new car/product launches! The summery combination of accordion and steel pan creates a great ‘world music sound: the ‘pan is a real hit in NZ, as it is so unusual here. Add great vocals and creative backing, and you have a big, foot tapping good time sound !

2. Ceilidh style events with country partner dancing to celtic jigs and reels with full instruction and wild accordion grooves! Ideal for Weddings and Parties ensuring everyone mixes and enjoys some dancing without any pressure.

Dancing is accompanied by Jigs and Reels (often Scottish or Irish) and sometimes Waltzes, played on the button accordion by Paul – with rocking backing tracks! The dances are ‘called (explained beforehand) by Stephanie, which ensures that everyone can join in whether or not they have done any ‘country dancing before. This is a great social ‘mixer, integrating families and friends at Wedding Receptions, Birthday Parties, University/College Balls, Corporate Events/Conferences, Rotary / Lions functions etc.

When doing a ‘Ceilidh style night, most of the music we use would be classified as ‘traditional - but with some songs thrown in for variety like ‘Tell Me Ma or ‘Saturday Night at the Twist & Shout (Mary Chapin Carpenter) and even ‘Bad Moon Rising (CCR). Dancers thus get variety and a more entertaining event.

When we are doing ‘Ceilidh nights, Stephanie likes to get out into the audience on radio mike, which being very interactive makes things go with a swing and ensures everyone has a good time!

Dr Music provided a wonderful evening of entertainment at our school gala last week. Their unique style was enjoyed by a wide age range of people and their enthusiasm and warm friendly personalities created a very relaxing atmosphere with lovely music. You are a great team both very talented and your music selection was perfect and we were very grateful for the roll you took announcing happenings of our event in between your playing. Well done..and thank you.

Stephanie "called" the dances at a 70th birthday party while Paul played and sang. Great music and a fantastic time--some men not seen dancing since their 20s were up and prancing. "Bloody marvellous!, said one guest.

Dr Music performed for the Central Otago Farmers' Market on several Sundays of the 2012-13 season, the audience being international visitors and Central Otago and Cromwell residents. Live music in an outdoor setting, surrounded by regional produce! Dr Music were brilliant: reliable, professional, and people just LOVED that music! Furthermore, their ability to MC a crowd was excellent. Jill Cameron 19/09/12

Dr Music played at our Cromwell Rotary changeover party and they were great. The steel drum added a different feel to the music, and the eclectic mix of songs and arrangements was really well received by an older but lively crowd!

Fabulous group that has an eclectic sound and great vocals. We used Dr. Music for our markets and their amazing beats helped the customers find our wee market! They are friendly, engaging, and overall a great addition to any event.

An excellent night, with a varied range of performers, who had put a lot of work into their acts, especially Kiss as the grand finale. A big thanks to all who took part. Thanks also to Paul and Stephanie (Dr Music)for playing their music. The steel drum was incredible and the mix of music mostly with a Caribbean feel was superb.
